Adoptive Families A group of families who want to adopt, are in the process of adopting, or who have adopted children. We also welcome anyone whose life has been touched by adoption. We meet quarterly for an informal potluck to share our experience. We hire babysitters to play with our kids as we talk. Baptism Banner-Making For those who like to use their hands to create beautiful banners while deepening friendship. Throughout the year we make banners used in baptism services that bear the name of the baptized child. The banner is given to the family as a gift from St. John’s. It also serves to welcome new children into the community and remind them that they are Christ’s own forever. We meet approximately 6 times a year. Contact: Margie Sutton–612-879-9805
Bible Study This group gathers to study, ponder and discuss the Bible. Our focus this year will be on engaging scripture. During several sessions throughout the year, we will explore different techniques to help us interact with and find meaning in scripture. In the first session, we will look at the Psalms in a new and personal way through the use of the Bible (NRSV) and several modern translatons. All readings will be provided. Contemplative Prayer Group A weekly gathering in the chapel on Sunday nights at 7:00 p.m. for those who value silence, beauty and contemplation in prayer. Contact: Jymie Anderson 612-925-2390.
Contemporary Fiction A group that gathers to discuss an eclectic variety of fiction relating to spiritual themes. We meet on the third Friday of each month to discuss either a book or a movie. Contact: Dan Vogel–612-922-5685.
Dine-In Group We welcome all who are 55 years of age or older, married or single, who would like to be included in our dine-In group. We have a pool of people, new members and old, divided into groups of eight to ten that meet in homes for a potluck dinner. We frequently reshuffle the pool for a new set of dinners. Education for Ministry (EFM) is a wonderful way to delve more deeply into our faith tradition, connect faith and life through theological reflection, and develop meaningful and lasting relationships in a small group. Participants register for a year at a time (it is a four year program altogether): Year 1 - Hebrew Scriptures; Year 2 - Christian Scriptures; Year 3 - Church History; Year 4 - Theology. We meet regularly, usually once a week, in seminars under the guidance of a trained mentor. EFM is a theology-at-a-distance program of the School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee TN. CEUs available.

House Book Group We read books that prompt discussion of spiritual, ethical and religious issues. Typically, we read a chapter to discuss for each meeting. We meet every other Sunday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at a member’s home. Meetings include a discussion of the book, dessert, fellowship and personal sharing. Contact: Dan & Ann Gifford–612-925-5042.

Men’s Bible Study A gathering of men from St. John’s who reflect on biblical texts together. This year we are studying the teachings of Jesus. Lively conversation about each person’s personal spiritual journey has been an integral part of the meetings. Contact: Jay Hornbacher.

Small Groups for Parents and Children. Beginning in January, 2008, Mariann Budde, our rector, is gathering parents of the congregation to explore ways of fostering deeper relationships among themselves and their children, and to have intentional conversations about matters of faith, life, and raising children. Drop In Sharing
Join us as we try to recognize where the Spirit is present in the worship we share on Sunday mornings and in our daily lives.
