Shelter Meals

For many years, St. John’s has been actively involved with Our Saviour’s Housing, which provides emergency shelter for forty men and women. Our Saviour’s is unique in that residents may stay up to one month and longer if they are actively saving money towards permanent housing. The shelter also provides case management services to help residents find employment, seek medical help, counseling or whatever the need may be.

St John’s has been providing a Friday night meal every other month for many years and we always do a wonderful job serving healthy, nicely prepared food. Our meal is always very much appreciated. We are in need of volunteers the second Fridays of October, December, February, April and June to help prepare the meal in our kitchen, clean up, serve the meal and provide fellowship at the shelter. For those who like to cook in the comfort of their own kitchen, we also need people to provide side dishes such as vegetables, salads, desserts and breads. Meal prep and clean up are best done by adults or older children, but meal service is a wonderful opportunity for families with children who are too young to chop and dice in the kitchen.

We are also in need of one or two people who are willing to learn the ropes in becoming a meal leader. If you enjoy cooking or are looking for a vehicle to become of service to others, this is a wonderful and satisfying opportunity. Please call Annette Bruscino at (952) 933-2818 for more information.
