Katherine Voelkers

Q: In what ways do you share your musical gifts at St. John’s?
A: I play violin at the 9am service and occasionally perform solo pieces.

Q: What music do you listen to?
A: I pretty much like all types of music. Currently my favorite song is "I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraz, but I'll listen to anything from John Mellencamp to Lady Gaga.

Q: Do you have a favorite musical artist, song or composition?
A: My favorite band is definitely Dave Matthews Band. I can sing along to probably every song.

Q: Is there any particular music or musician that has influenced you?
A: I think that all of the different types of music that I'm exposed to makes me appreciate it that much more. Most teenagers cringe just at the words "classical music," but I obviously don't mind it at all since I love the violin.

Q: What musical endeavors do you pursue outside of St. John's?
A: I play first violin in the Reparatory Orchestra in the Minnesota Youth Symphonies, take private lessons, and play in the school orchestra.

Q: If you could meet any musical person, past or present, who would it be?
A: I think meeting Dave Matthews would be pretty cool because I love all of his songs and he seems like a really interesting, funny person.

Q: What is something people might be surprised to know about you?
A: My favorite trip that I've ever been on was the St. John's mission trip to Guatemala. It was so inspirational to see the happiness of all of the Guatemalan people even though they have very little.
