About Our Music Director

Chad comes to St John’s with 14 years’ experience providing musical leadership for a congregation with broad musical style, as well as in liturgical planning and collaborative ministry. Prior to coming to St. John’s Chad had been serving since 1994 as the Director of Music at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio. He plays the piano, organ, electric keyboard and guitar, and enjoys accompanying, directing and coordinating a variety of choral and instrumental ensembles. Chad is married to Wendy Smith, and they have two children, Nate, age 15; and Liam, age 12. Chad’s focus is on making connections, building relationships with and between members of the congregation through music, enhancing worship, encouraging participation and striving for the best possible performance/offering, and finally, respecting and caring for all people, meeting them where they are.
