One of the most important opportunities St. John’s offers is the chance to forge friendships across generational lines. And while we think this primarily benefits the younger person who can develop a relationship with an older person it works the other way as well. The truth of the matter is that we have precious few opportunities to create intergenerational relationships outside of families, yet these are some of the most important relationships we have. So at St. John’s we strive to create environments where we can develop these relationships in the midst of meaningful and fun work.
Intergenerational Events Intergenerational events are opportunities to bring the whole community together and do something both fun and useful. So we make stuff. Advent Wreaths. Prayer Tables. Candles. Decorative Crosses. We have two main events each year, an Advent Workshop the first Sunday of Advent and a Lent Workshop the Sunday before Ash Wednesday.
Feed My Starving Children We have once-a-month trips to the Eagan facility where we prepare and pack meals that are sent all over the world to help alleviate hunger among children. Open to anyone from Grade 3 and up. First one will be Saturday, September 25, meet at church at 3:45.
Guatemala 2011 Next summer we will work in the village of San Lucas Toliman on the shores of beautiful Lake Atitlan. Recently hit by fierce rainstorms we will help with the clean-up and aftermath as they try and rebuild roads, recover their coffee crop and return to some semblance of normal. Open to those entering high school and older, this is an opportunity to experience another culture, do some hard, physical labor, and encounter both the beauty and poverty of a remarkable country. The mission has projects including coffee production, education, a clinic, housing and reforestation. Contact

Habitat For Humanity 2012 Open to ages 16 and up on the work site and any age in the kitchen, this is your chance to spend a week sweating and hammering in the southern sun (or cooking in the air-conditioned kitchen if that sounds better). We work with the Baldwin County, Alabama, Habitat for Humanity affiliate. Beginning with a slab, we build an exterior of a house and often are working on wiring and sheetrock by the end of the week.
