2010-2011 Theme: Building New Foundations
At a time when we’re all adjusting to some “new normal,” or lives permanently changed, St Johns considers what it means to build new foundations when old ones no longer serve. Where are our foundations strong and trustworthy? Where are they in need of repair or replacement? Where is God to be found amidst the new and the old?

Sunday Forums are held in the main sanctuary during the Education Hour from 10:10-10:55. Bring your coffee and a friend.

Don’t Know Much About Church History
The Rev. John Bellaimey and Lynnell Mickelsen are back with a lively five-week, non-survey course on what happened after Jesus, Paul and the Gang of 12 passed on and how the next generations of leaders attempted to herd congregants into believing Right Version of Christianity. It promises to be a rollicking guided tour, with everything you need to know about creeds, schisms, heretics and how we ended up here.

October 17-November 14
Stories Too Good Not To Know
David Rodrick and Jay Hornbacher will tell us some of the great Bible stories through dramatic excerpts taken directly from scripture and an interpretive spin that suggests ways the narratives speak to our own life of faith. Some of the characters you’ll come to know: Jacob, Joseph, David, Elijah, Ahab, and Jezebel. (Note: there is no Forum or Christian Education on October 24 or November 21)

November 28-December 19
Spiritual Practices that Anyone Can Learn
Brian McLaren writes,” Spiritual practices are about life, about training ourselves to become the kinds of people who have eyes and actually see, and who have ears and actually hear, and so experience not just survival but life.” It’s Advent the season of waiting and preparation. Take a deep breath, and allow Michael Walters and John Ackerman guide you.

Encountering the Gospel
Sunday Small Group 10:10-10:50, Room 4 of the Sunday School Wing
For those who hunger for more in-depth, personal conversation on Sunday mornings,  a small group will gather to reflect on the morning’s Gospel text. It’s not a sermon discussion, but instead, a careful reading of the gospel, using ways old and new to unpack the meaning for ourselves. The group will be facilitated on a rotating basis by four or five St. John’s members.
