Habitat for Humanity
St John’s offers many opportunities to help build homes for those in need through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Work days in the Twin Cities usually occur in the summer. Every other year a group also spends a week in another part of the country helping to build a home – past trips have helped hurricane victims in Mississippi and Alabama. 2008 Habitat Work Trip
St. John's will be sending another team of intrepid souls to build a house for Habitat for Humanity in Baldwin County, Alabama from August 2nd through August 10th. We will travel by bus and will spend Monday through Friday building in the warm sun and comforting humidity of southern Alabama. Last year we began with a slab on Monday morning and on Friday left behind a finished exterior with 2/3's of the sheetrock hung inside. It was an amazing week!
We are returning to Baldwin County because in 20+ years of working with Habitat affiliates around the country we have never seen one as well-organized and productive as this one. The trip will cost $200/person and the work site is open to anyone 14 and over (with some restrictions on the 14-17 year olds.) Anyone under 14 can help in the kitchen. We will also need 2-3 adults to help with cooking. We can take up to 30 for the work site. No skills necessary, just a willingness to work (and sweat) for a good cause.
To secure your place send a deposit of $100, made out to St. John's to Bill Peterson, 3205 21st Av. So., Mpls. MN. 55407. For more information email or call Bill (612-728-0030). Come join us in the southern sun!
