The Green Team

The members of St. John's have a long history of caring for God's creation.  Our church has beautiful rain-gardens, practices efficient recycling of materials generated onsite, and works to integrate Green practices into its liturgy and justice & social outreach activities.  Some of our parishioners have already adopted practices such as geothermal heating and cooling, or work at companies that are guided by sustainable building or design principles.

The Green Team is a working group that promotes stewardship of our environment by working together to increase the energy-efficiency of our church buildings and practices.  Additionally, the Green Team helps raise environmental consciousness in the congregation through effective communication of Green (concerned with or supporting environmentalism) issues.

The Green Team is relatively new at St. John's.  We acknowledge our personal spiritual practices of energy, waste, and lifestyle management as small steps toward environmental justice in the world, but also are concerned and active with the bigger picture issues such as the impact of climate change on the world's poor.  We embrace Environmentalism 2.0; the fact that our choices have and will impact the larger world community.  We seek ways to make a difference in the environmental sphere as we are called to "do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God."
