St Johns Food Ministries
Shelter Meals St Johns is actively involved with Our Saviour’s Housing, which provides emergency shelter for forty men and women in Southeast Minneapolis. Our Saviour’s is unique in that residents may stay up to one month and longer if they are actively saving money towards permanent housing. The shelter also provides case management services to help residents find employment, seek medical help, counseling or whatever the need may be.
We at St. John’s prepare one meal every other month for the shelter. On the second Fridays of October, December, February, April and June a team prepare the meals in our kitchen. At the shelter, we serve the meal and spend time with the residents. For those who like to cook in the comfort of their own kitchen, we also need people to provide side dishes such as vegetables, salads, desserts and breads. Meal prep and clean up are best done by adults or older children, but meal service is a wonderful opportunity for families with children who are too young to chop and dice in the kitchen.

First Nations Kitchen Located at All Saint’s Indian Mission at 31st and Longfellow, First Nations Kitchen serves a weekly Sunday night supper for the people in their neighborhood.
The goal is to serve healthy, organic, traditional indigenous food in a welcoming, family environment every Sunday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The fare is based on the ancestral diet of the First Nations people. The target clientele is the indigenous community in the Twin Cities, residents of nearby Little Earth of the United Tribes housing community and people from the neighborhood. All are welcome, and part of the wonder of this offering is the opportunity for people with different economic and cultural backgrounds to break together.
St Johns has responsibility for the second Sunday of alternate months. We prepare food, pick up bread, set tables, serve and cleanup. Three people are needed for food preparation from 1:30 to 3:30, two for bread pickup and table setting (2:45 to 4:00), three for serving beginning at 5:00 pm and two more for dishwashing/cleanup (servers and dishwashers can rotate positions, or dishwashers/cleanup come at 6:00). Food is served to 60 to 110 people from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. You must be 14 or older to work.
