The Rev. Dr. Mariann Edgar Budde has been the Rector of St. John’s since 1993. (“Rector” is an old English word meaning, “leader.”) Ordained to the priesthood in 1988, Mariann came to St. John’s after serving a parish in Ohio. Her primary responsibility is to provide spiritual leadership and direction to the parish, through worship, preaching, teaching, pastoral care, and oversight of the staff and various ministries of the church. She works collaboratively with the church clergy, staff and Vestry members (the elected leadership) and helps the leadership clarify its vision and goals for the future. She is also active in community and diocesan ministry.

Heidi Joos is a native of the Midwest who roamed on the east coast for a number of years before moving back here to the heartland almost 12 years ago. She was a United Methodist pastor for 12 years and now an Episcopal priest for the past 15 years. However, she has never earned a living that way, but instead toils in the trenches as a physician, first in Family Practice, and for the past 27 years as a psychiatrist. Heidi lives with her partner of 25 years, Ivy Booth, who is an advanced practice nurse at the U of MN hospital, and her amazing Labrador Retriever, Sophia. They have a daughter, Megan, who lives in Pittsburgh and, working closely with her husband, Matt, has supplied 2 grandsons. Heidi and Ivy arrived at St. John’s by the simple expedient of buying a house in the neighborhood and deciding to attend the nearest Episcopal church on that first Sunday. Once was all it took. After transferring her Orders to Minnesota from Pennsylvania, she has been an Associate Priest at St. John’s for the entire time in Minneapolis. Heidi assists in preaching, presiding at worship, teaching, and providing counsel to St. John’s pastoral care team.
Heidi enjoys walking the dog, camping in the summer, trying to improve her Spanish and reading whatever is available: magazines, books, cereal boxes. Preferred literature is history, theology, murder mysteries and comic collections.
