Living the Questions
Wednesday, July 23, 6:30 - 8:00 pm
Spend the evening with other parishioners in conversation and a feast for the body, mind and spirit! We will begin with a simple meal, view a DVD, and then discuss what we've seen and heard. There's no required reading, and no required attendance. Come as often as you want or can. Some of the topic titles are: Taking the Bible Seriously; Social Justice: Realizing God's Vision; Embracing Mystery; Evil, Suffering, and a God of Love; Why Jesus is Worh Saving; The World Into Which Jesus was Born; and several others.
Summer Sunday Vacation Bible School
10:10 am during the education hour, June 29, July 6, 13, 20 and 27
This year our children (ages 4-12) have a chance to roll up their sleeves and contribute their time and talent to Habitat for Humanity through Sunday Vacation Bible School. Please join us!
BREAD FOR THE WORLD
Sunday, July 20
Members of St. John's have committed to support an organization known as BREAD FOR THE WORLD which is a "collective Christian voice urging our nation's decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad. By changing policies, programs and conditions that allow hunger and poverty to persist, we provide help and opportunity far beyond the communities in which we live. " BREAD FOR THE WORLD communities make an offering of letters to Congress. We will have our first meeting on July 20 at the Adult Education Hour. On July 27 there will be an opportunity to write letters to Congress about specific legislation.
Coming PEACE Foundation events
July 26 – FLOW – Northside Arts Crawl – 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Volunteer to help or just come to West Broadway and enjoy visual and performing art for the whole family. There are art making activities, drill team and dance performances, talent show finals, live music, and art installations with over 200 Northside artists. Church Work Day
Saturday, August 9, 9:00 am
Volunteers are needed to help with a few projects around the church. There is painting to be done and windows to be repaired. Experts will be on hand to provide direction, so no experience needed. We will supply lunch and a cold beer at the end of the day. Tools and supplies will be provided, unless you want to use your favorite paint brush. St. John’s Summer Book Club

Take This Bread: The Spiritual Memoir of a Twenty-First-Century Christian by Sara Miles We invite all those who want to read a good memoir this summer to join us for a discussion of Take This Bread, by journalist and war correspondent Sara Miles. We’ll discuss Miles’ compelling life story and mid-life conversion to Christianity through her first communion experience at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Books are available on the table in the gallery. Cost is $14.
